South Korean construction equipment manufacturer HD Hyundai Infracore is planning to develop truck batteries to enter the electric commercial vehicle market.
It said it will supply lithium-ion battery packs for trucks to Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle Company. The two companies will strengthen cooperation to expand the range of electric commercial vehicle models.
HD Hyundai Infracore will start producing battery pack prototypes during the first half of 2024 and plans mass production in 2025. Currently, it has a battery pack manufacturing facility in its Incheon factory in Korea.
It said it plans to develop small and light battery packs for commercial vehicles. They will be based on battery modularisation and pack design technologies. It will also be applying ASIL-C Level safety technology to its products. It said this is one of the highest degrees defined by the ISO 26262 standard, and will maximise functional safety of road vehicles.
HD Hyundai Infracore’s engine business is working on adding more products to its powertrain line-up. The battery packs it produced in 2023 have been applied to its electric excavators, it said.
