Exide Technologies, the French battery manufacturer, has launched a new range of products aimed at the UPS functions of data centres.
Exide said the ‘Sprinter Pure Power’ range is manufactured with pure lead electrodes, offering the highest power, corrosion resistance and operation at high temperatures. This will allow significant savings in air conditioning, which will mean considerable reductions in CO2 emissions and energy consumption, it added.
The battery’s footprint is up to 20% smaller than the space required for traditional lead-acid batteries. Exide claims that Sprinter Pure Power batteries are designed to perform in modern data centres, including large-scale colocation and hyperscale facilities.
The expected lifetime is 20% higher than for corresponding UPS batteries thanks to new pure lead AGM separator technology with extremely low electrical resistance. Exide added the new battery provides 20% more power at high-rate discharges.
The new battery range is manufactured in Portugal.
Serge Arbes, senior commercial director of global energy solutions, Exide Technologies, said the batteries are produced on fully automated manufacturing lines with automated quality control at each production stage.
Exide makes lead batteries for automotive and industrial use, as well as solutions for renewable energy, utility BESS and telecom involving several battery chemistries.
