Fike, the US industrial hazard company, announced a partnership with Dubai’s Heriot-Watt University to add the subject of cascading thermal runaway to its battery energy storage safety curriculum.
Fike technology consultant Zafar Siddiqui recently met with university leaders to make their BESS the first system in the Middle East and North Africa to be protected by Fike Blue.
It said this is a patented liquid “proven” to suppress a cascading thermal runaway event. A liquid with a very high boiling point, Fike Blue is directly injected into the battery module and manages the thermal event by absorbing the heat until the event is over, it said.
The university is a satellite campus of Heriot-Watt in the UK and the first foreign university to open in Dubai.
