Specialty chemicals company Huntsman Corporation is planning to increase capacity of its lithium-ion battery material ethylene carbonate.
The company’s Performance Products division will increase manufacturing capacity of its ethylene carbonate product at its Texas, US, facility by mid-2023.
However, the company would not disclose to BEST what the capacity is rising to, what its “new high-purity grades” are and what percentage of the increased capacity will be dedicated to manufacturing it, or whether the increase in capacity included infrastructural expansion.
The material is used is used to ensure the reliable operation and long working life of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and electronics.
In recent years, there has been growth in ethylene carbonate tied to the adoption of EVs.
