Fluence Energy announced the start of domestic battery module production in the US state of Utah incorporating battery cells manufactured in Tennessee.
Fluence said its strategy is to scale module production with domestically sourced components to meet increasing domestic demand for utility-scale energy storage. The modules integrate with Fluence’s battery management system.
John Zahurancik, Fluence President, Americas, said: “Our proactive approach to securing US-manufactured battery cells and rapid initiation of module production has provided us with an advantage in delivering a storage solution that allows our customers to capture the Inflation Reduction Act’s domestic content bonus tax credit.”
Recently announced increases in Section 301 tariffs on batteries imported from China underscore the need for a robust domestic supply chain, the company said. The tariffs are set to rise to 25% in 2026.
The company agreed a deal last month with renewable energy infrastructure fund Excelsior Capital to deploy 2.2GWh of energy storage projects using domestically manufactured battery systems. Excelsior will deploy Fluence’s Gridstack Pro product line from 2025.
