AMG Advanced Metallurgical Group NV said its wholly owned subsidiary, AMG Lithium GmbH of Frankfurt, Germany, signed a binding supply agreement with Korean battery technology company EcoPro.
AMG Lithium will supply EcoPro with battery-grade lithium hydroxide from its plant in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany, as part of an initial three-year deal. The plant is under construction and scheduled to start commissioning in Q3 2023.
AMG Lithium will deliver a minimum of 5,000 tonnes of battery-grade lithium hydroxide per year to EcoPro BM’s cathode materials production plant in Debrecen, Hungary. The contract includes an option for additional volumes.
Initial quantities for qualification purposes are scheduled for delivery in late 2023. Regular quantities will follow in 2024. Financial details were not disclosed.
AMG Lithium plans to produce 20,000 tonnes annually of battery-grade lithium hydroxide in the first module in Bitterfeld-Wolfen. Four additional modules are planned to take the annual production capacity to 100,000 tonnes.

AMG Lithium is part of the AMG Clean Energy Materials division, which includes AMG’s recycling and mining activities for lithium, vanadium and tantalum. It produces materials for infrastructure and energy storage solutions. Based on spodumene deposits from AMG mining operations in Brazil, AMG Lithium supplies battery-grade lithium hydroxide and high-performance battery materials for the European battery market.
