Chinese-owned battery company Gotion Power Morocco announced an investment deal on 13 November with a local investor for its Moroccan gigafactory project.
Investment agency Caisse de Dépôt et de Gestion (CDG) has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Gotion for a $280 million injection into the 20GWh project, rising to 100GWh when at full capacity.
It will make lithium-ion battery cells and packs, alongside energy storage system batteries and 200,000 tons of cathode materials.
Located in the region of Kénitra, it will be Morocco’s first gigafactory.
Gotion signed a joint development agreement with ACWA Power on 29 October for a 500MW wind power plant paired with a 2GWh battery storage system in its first phase.
