Harmony Energy is set to install France’s first large-scale two-hour battery, a Tesla Megapack.
The 100MW/200MWh BESS will go on a site previously occupied by the Cheviré power station, which was operational from 1954–86. It will use Megapack and Autobidder trading technology and will provide enough electricity to power some 170,000 homes for two hours. That is more than the population of the City of Nantes, said Harmony.
Each single lithium-ion battery unit has a storage capacity of 3.9MWh.
Construction of the project is due to begin shortly and the company expects the system to be fully operational in winter 2025. Harmony spokesperson Jack Kelly said Pillswood, Clay Tye and Bumpers sites (all UK-based) were, at the time of launch, the three biggest operational BESS by MWh in Europe. Harmony Energy developed, energised and now operates all three sites with joint ventures.
The UK company develops, owns and operates utility-scale battery energy storage across the UK, Europe and New Zealand.
