Japan and Canada are discussing ways of building strong battery metal supply chains, said Japan’s industry minister, Yasutoshi Nishimura, on Tuesday.
Reuters reported that a public-private mission led by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry with 16 visited Canada last week for talks. The mission, which included battery industry companies, lookwed at building sustainable and resilient supply chains, he said.
“Canada has an abundance of battery metals and good market access to the United States,” Nishimura told reporters. He said Canada is one of the most important countries for Japan for strengthening storage battery metals supply chains.
