A supply agreement deal between AES Energy Storage and LG Chem will bring a GWh of lithium-ion battery capacity on stream.
The multi-year agreement will see Korean firm LG Chem specifically design and configure its battery modules for AES’ Advancion grid-scale energy storage application.
The supply agreement covers battery modules with configurations ranging from 30 minutes to four hours of discharge duration.
US firm AES and LG Chem have also agreed to collaborate on joint development initiatives to drive sales of the Advancion product to utilities and system operators.
LG Chem become a qualified supplier of batteries for Advancion 4 in 2014. To date it has supplied batteries for three large-scale Advancion arrays.
