LG Energy Solution has plans to develop an advanced battery management system (BMS) with Qualcomm Technologies. It will use artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve 80 times faster computing power, it said.
The Korean battery company said the pair will explore BMS diagnostic solutions that support AI hardware and software solutions featured on Qualcomm’s cloud-connected telematics and auto connectivity. It is called Snapdragon Digital Chassis platform.
The new BMS means battery algorithms would be able to run in the vehicle in real time, utilising the computing power of the Snapdragon platforms already in use in the vehicle, LGES said.
Hyuksung Chung, vice president of business development at LGES, said: “Our work with Qualcomm Technologies intends to create differentiated customer value by enabling real-time battery health diagnosis as well as the development of battery management solutions that are directly linked to driving information.”
The company said advanced battery diagnostics are increasing as cars become more and more like lifestyle platforms for watching films, shopping and entertainment. It claims to hold over 7,000 BMS-related patents and a safety detection accuracy of 90%, which it said is the highest in the industry.
LGES anticipates its cooperation with Qualcomm will lead to the supply of more advanced battery diagnostic solutions.
