Lyten has announced the acquisition of Northvolt’s Dwa ESS operations in Gdansk, Poland – the largest battery energy storage system (BESS) manufacturing site in Europe.
The 25,000m² facility includes R&D capabilities and up to 6GWh of production capacity, with future expansion potential to 10GWh.
The deal strengthens Lyten’s European presence and supports growing demand for its lithium-sulfur batteries, which are already in use in drones, space missions, and concept EVs. These batteries offer high energy density, improved safety, and use low-cost, locally sourced materials.
“Northvolt’s BESS manufacturing operations are a seamless strategic fit for Lyten and an exciting new chapter for our company. We plan to immediately restart operations in Poland and deliver on existing and new customer orders,” said Dan Cook, Lyten CEO and co-founder. “Northvolt Poland’s manufacturing and R&D capability, combined with Lyten’s footprint in the US, gives Lyten the manufacturing capacity and customer network to provide leading energy storage products to customers worldwide.”
The Northvolt BESS, powered by renewable energy, has orders secured through 2026.
Robert Chryc-Gawrychowski, CEO of Northvolt Poland, added, “Northvolt set out to lead the sustainable development of Europe’s battery industry. Lyten is carrying that mission forward with BESS manufacturing and the introduction of lithium-sulfur batteries in Europe, which replaces minerals like nickel, cobalt, manganese, and graphite, with locally abundant battery materials.”
The transaction is expected to close in Q3 2025.
