MAC Engineering, a leading producer of battery manufacturing machinery, has announced its 60th birthday in the industry.

Starting in the garage of engineer Ken McGowan, he and fellow engineer Charlie McAlpine (Mac), designed and built their first automatic cast-on-strap machine. Preston Corporation (now Stryten) invested in MAC, leading to rapid production of 30 machines. Charles and Ken became sole owners and expansion followed.
14 years later, having outgrown their original facility, the company moved to its current location in Benton Harbor, MI.
Soon establishing itself as a leading producer of custom-designed machines, MAC evolved to offer a comprehensive line of battery manufacturing equipment, later integrating robotics and automation.
Key partnerships and acquisitions soon expanded the firm’s capabilities. Today, using new technologies, the company is actively developing proprietary equipment for battery startups.
MAC is a sustaining sponsor of Women in the Global Battery Industry (WGBI) and, along with Kustan, CMW Tech, Sorfin Yoshimura and Digatron Power Electronics, formed the Energy Storage Equipment Manufacturers Alliance (ESEMA).
