Swedish air treatment and climate solutions company Munters said it received an order from Norway’s Morrow Batteries for a dry room and dehumidification climate control system. It will go into Morrow’s first Gigafactory in Arendal, Norway.
Munters will deliver the dry room and the dehumidification system in this facility, Morrow’s first battery cell production plant in Norway.
Work has already started and Munters expects to deliver the complete climate solutions in 2023. The contract – no value disclosed – is also a continuation of its collaboration with Equans, a large construction contractor which builds battery factories.
The pair are working on several ongoing battery factory projects.
Once complete, the Arendal factory will have capacity to deliver several million battery cells a year to customers for uses such as energy storage systems. “We will also use the factory to qualify Morrow as a supplier to the automotive industry,” said acting CEO Håkon Tanem at the opening in September.
Technology company ABB was selected as a non-exclusive preferred supplier of technology for manufacturing and power supply to Morrow. The aim is to ensure the gigafactory becomes “one of the most cost-effective and sustainable in the world”. ABB also intends to purchase lithium batteries from Morrow for project deliveries to selected segments and customer groups.
