British battery material supplier Nexeon has added Antti Vasara as non-executive director to its board of directors.
Vasara has been vice president of Nokia’s corporate strategy unit and senior vice president of the Nokia Eseries product line. He held senior technology leadership roles in the commercialisation of consumer devices as senior vice president of devices productisation and SVP of mobile phones R&D at Nokia.
He is currently executive vice president at Tieto Corporation, a Nordic IT and R&D services company and non-executive director at software firm Comptel. Earlier in his career, he worked as management consultant at McKinsey.
„His extensive and relevant experience speaks for itself, and will be of enormous benefit to Nexeon both strategically and operationally,” said chairman Paul Atherton from UK-based Nexeon.
Vasara holds a PhD in Technical Physics from Helsinki University of Technology.
Vasara’s appointment comes after Nexeon hired three senior researchers from Sony for its R&D department in Oxfordshire earlier this year.
Nexeon develops silicon anodes for next generation of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries in automotive and consumer electronics. According to the firm, its anode products enable higher charge density for a longer time between charges. The company recently commissioned a manufacturing facility capable of producing 20 tonnes of material per year.
