UK chemistry technology company OXECO is to carry out a 15-month study into lithium-ion battery coatings with research and education group WMG from the UK’s University of Warwick.
They will aim to enhance the performance, longevity, and ease of manufacturing lithium-ion batteries by focusing on the preparation of active materials and coating foils used for making electrodes.
The company, a spin-out from the University of Oxford, expects the work to yield “transformative results” in the improvement of current lithium-ion batteries and be a significant step towards the development of more efficient, reliable, and sustainable energy storage solutions.
Jon-Paul Griffiths, founder and Chief Technology Officer at OXECO, said the collaboration marks the initial phase of its efforts towards the integration of its chemistry into lithium-ion batteries. They are also delving into other chemistry domains for diverse applications in batteries such as separator membranes.
