Panasonic Energy and car manufacturer Subaru have signed an agreement for the supply of cylindrical automotive lithium-ion batteries.
They gave little detail in their statement, and said this would be forthcoming for specific projects.
The two companies entered into discussions in July 2023 to build a long-term relationship on EV batteries.
Subaru is planning to start making BEVs from the latter half of the 2020s, with a reported target of 200,000 BEVs a year by 2026. By 2028, the target is reported to be 400,000 per year.
On 12 March, Subaru announced a deal to partner with Aisin Corp to jointly develop an eAxle (a gearbox, a motor and inverter) for use in BEVs, in which it reiterated it would start producing EVs from the latter half of the 2020s.
