Plans for a US lithium-ion battery gigafactory have been announced by Lars Carlstrom— the man behind plans for battery plants in the UK (Britishvolt) and Italy (Italvolt).
The plans for the 54GWh plant— enough for around 650,000 electric vehicles— are being driven by a new firm called Statevolt.
Although the company is “conducting due diligence to determine the best location to build its plant” it is reportedly going to be built in southern California’s Imperial Valley.
According to reports, Statevolt expects to invest $4 billion in the project.
Statevolt has reportedly signed a letter of intent with Controlled Thermal Resources (CTR) who will supply both the lithium and geothermal energy from its Hell’s Kitchen Lithium and Power project in the Imperial Valley.
