Samsung SDI has started the construction phase of a solid-state battery manufacturing pilot line (S-line) in China.
The 6,500㎡ pilot line will be at the Korean firm’s R&D Center in Yeongtong-gu, Suwon-si, Gyeonggi-do.
Samsung SDI is hoping to achieve market-leading research results and production technology of solid-state batteries through S-Line.
Samsung SDI plans to introduce facilities and systems to produce cathode and solid electrolytes, and adopt new production methods and infrastructure, such as assembling cells, to allow ions to move smoothly within.
Samsung SDI has been manufacturing prototype of solid-state batteries through successful design and compound of a solid electrolyte.
In addition, it has developed the anode-free lithium cell architecture, which was published in the scientific journal Nature Energy.
