South Korean battery maker SK Innovation is preparing to commercialise its first nickel cobalt manganese (NCM) batteries that contain 90% nickel, 5% cobalt and 5% manganese.
The firm’s new NCM 9-1/2-1/2 batteries will initially be fitted into Ford F-150 electric pickup trucks set for release in 2023, according to a report by The Korea Herald.
With their higher nickel content, the batteries are expected to offer a driving range of 700 kilometres and a shorter charging time— although no official figures have been published.
The company launched its NCM 811 cells at a conference in Las Vegas, US, at the start of the year.
