German-based energy storage firm Sonnenbatterie is facing delivery problems of its lithium-ion solar energy storage systems (ESS).
The CEO of Sonnenbatterie, Christoph Ostermann, told German publication PV magazine that the demand for the company’s ESS eco is greater than Sonnenbatterie expected. A component supplier has troubles delivering materials and is causing delays for Sonnenbatterie to produce and supply the ESS.
The basic version of ESS has a capacity of 4.5kWh and the commercial of 20kWh, which can be connected to up to 200kWh in capacity. The ESS features pre-configured connections for additional applications such as back-up power, heat pumps or combined heat and power units.
“At the moment, we supply 20% less than usual,” said Ostermann and added that the company has sold out its ESS until the end of this year.
The company is currently in the ramp-up phase of serial production and said that serial production will cut the cost of the battery storage system by 40%, making it competitive against lead-acid systems. The ESS manufacturer aims to deliver 2,500 systems by the end of this year.
Sonnenbatterie’s business development manager Benjamin Schott told BEST earlier this year that there is a huge hidden potential of ESS in Germany that is not exploited yet.
The company entered the US energy market with five distribution partners to serve the Southern California market in spring.
