Russia’s nuclear industry embraces the benefits of lithium-ion batteries

Russia state-operated nuclear energy firm Rosatom has incorporated Rosatom Energy Storage Solutions (RENERA) to develop and trade lithium-ion traction and stationary batteries.

RENERA, the new name of Cathode Materials, a 100% subsidiary of Russian nuclear fuel cycle firm TVEL (owned by Rosatom), will develop batteries for electric vehicles, and energy storage systems.

India’s lead battery market ‘on the up’

The lead-acid business in India is set to soar over the next few years and demand from stationary and motive applications (SMA) will more than double in value, according to a new report.

The India Energy Storage Alliance (IESA) said the value of the country’s lead-acid batteries market is currently worth around Rs27,000 crore ($4.2 billion)— of which the SMA market share accounts for Rs12,650 crore ($1.98bn).

ORNL scientists develop Al-Li hybrid battery

Scientists at Oak Ridge National Laboratory have developed an aluminium-lithium hybrid battery they believe can boost performance for grid and stationary applications.

The hybrid battery uses aluminium as the anode and a lithium intercalation cathode (LiFePO) to increase capacity, cycling performance and safety.
