US company Trojan Battery’s new chief operating officer believes the future for lead-acid lies within the stationary and commercial markets.
New COO John Beering also told BBB he believes there will be a move from flooded deep-cycle batteries towards AGM (All Glass Matt) technology.
“Broadly I would say the growing trends for energy storage are in an array of stationary and commercial markets, which leaves us bullish for a long growth runway ahead,” he said.
“The potential market opportunities are enormous, and refining where and how Trojan Battery will participate are priorities.
“More specifically, in the near term, I do see more movement from flooded deep-cycle batteries toward AGM solutions.”
Beering was hired to oversee Trojan’s business operations amid its global expansion plans. This includes him taking responsibility for all operations of the company including manufacturing, supply chain, sales and marketing.
He will, however, report to Jeff Elder, Trojan’s president and chief executive officer.
Beering has worked in the aerospace industry and was senior vice-president for the commercial powertrain business with electrical engineering firm Eaton.
Trojan has not yet hinted at a move into the 48V lead-carbon arena, but the launch of its new ‘smart carbon’ battery (albeit for the renewables sector) is quite suggestive.
