The world’s largest battery storage facility, built by Japanese battery company GS Yuasa, has entered into service for North Hokkaido Wind Energy Transmission Corporation.
GS Yuasa will maintain the battery facility for the next 20 years.
It has output of 240 MW and a capacity of 720 MWh, and is located at the Kita Toyotomi Substation of Northern Hokkaido Wind Power Transmission.
The system is fitted with about 210,000 modules and 3.3 million lithium-ion cells.
The Starelink storage battery maintenance service uses GS Yuasa’s remote monitoring technology and predictive and forecasting technology, and will constantly monitor the voltage of all the lithium-ion battery cells and carry out fault surveillance.
The facility was ordered in 2018 and installed over a 16-month period.
