Yamaha Motor has created a battery-swapping company, Enyring, to offer swappable batteries for compact urban electric vehicles via subscription. It kicks off in Germany in the first half of 2025.
The Japanese company said Enyring envisages collaboration between Yamaha Motor and strategic partners. There are plans to expand the business throughout Germany and the Netherlands.
The target is compact urban electric vehicles in the low-speed range (mainly eBikes), it said. The subscription batteries can be exchanged at any swappable battery station throughout a city at any time.
Used batteries no longer suitable for mobility use can be reused as storage batteries, disassembled into cells, recycled and reused as new batteries, Yamaha said.
In November, Taiwanese motorcycle company Kymco announced its Ionex Battery-as-a-Service. Users receive batteries from energy companies and pay only for actual usage. It said there would be thousands of charging stations across Taiwan where batteries can be swapped.
