Corvus Energy in lithium-ion cell partnership with LG Chem

Maritime energy storage specialist Corvus Energy will now use LG Chem’s lithium-ion pouch cells following a supply deal.

The multi-year agreement will see Corvus Energy using the Korean firm’s cells for its next generation maritime energy storage systems (ESS), which are used to power passenger and commercial vessels.

Chris Cha, LG Chem’s team leader marine TFT, ESS Marine & Offshore Applications, said his company was ‘very focused’ on success in the rapidly growing marine market.

US company Corvus is a pioneer in supplying ESSs for hybridised or fully electrified vessels and equipment, with an installed-base totalling more 30 megawatt-hours.

“We are excited to provide to our customers a step change in cost-per-kWh for purpose-built high quality maritime ESS solutions,” said Andrew Morden, CEO of Corvus Energy.

The partnership leverages LG Chem’s R&D, manufacturing and supply chain from the transport and grid sectors and ensures access for Corvus to cost-effective and high quality cells.
