China battery maker BYD is in talks to sell a 3billion yuan (around $449million) share of the company to a South Korean electronics firm. 

Samsung Electronics is set to confirm this week that it has successfully made play to enter the battery industry.

Another Sony laptop recall as lithium issues reappear

Sony has recalled about 1,700 Vaio laptops in what has become a long line of battery-related recalls for the Japanese electronics maker.

The laptops contain Panasonic lithium-ion battery packs that were installed between February and October 2013.

Integrated circuit recharges batteries

Semiconductor developer, STMicroelectronics, has brought out a new integrated circuit (IC) that uses a thermo-electric generator to power electronic circuits and recharge batteries.

The IC uses ambient light or thermal energy to power small electronic devices such as wireless sensors, smart-building and industrial equipment controls.
