Upside Group starts up latest lead-carbon BESS in Germany

A second large-scale lead-carbon battery storage system has been put into operation in Germany by the country’s Upside Group.

The 16 MW/25 MWh installation at Bennewitz, in the state of Saxony, uses batteries supplied by China’s Narada— as does Upside’s first such lead project at Langenreichenbach, near Leipzig.

China set for ‘significant energy storage surge’

China’s domestic energy storage sector has seen growth of nearly 300% so far this year— vastly outstripping all capacity brought on line in 2017, according to a new study.

Newly operational energy storage capacity has already achieved growth to date in 2018 that is “281% higher than that of 2017 in its entirety”, the China Energy Storage Alliance (CNESA) said.

Narada awarded Bangladesh LFP project

Chinese battery maker Narada has won a contract worth more than $40 million to supply a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system to a telecoms operator in Bangladesh.

Narada did not name the company involved, but said the project was “the first large-scale selection of lithium-ion batteries for the base stations of the country”.

Narada to invest $16m in VRLA battery factory in Hubei

China’s Narada Power Source is to invest 97m yuan ($16m) to build a lead-acid battery plant in Hubei province.

Narada’s subsidiary Wuhan Narada New Energy will build the 10m kVAh new plant in Hubei's Gedian Economic & Technological Development Zone. The factory will primarily manufacture VRLA batteries, as lead-carbon batteries for stop-start vehicle applications.
