Electrovaya buys ceramic separator patents for lithium-ion batteries

Electrovaya has bought 30 key lithium-ion ceramic separator and battery issued patents previously owned by Litarion, the Canadian company announced on 4 February.

The patents concern the design, manufacture and application of ceramic composite separators for lithium-ion and novel battery design.

Electrovaya acquired the patents to strengthen its proprietary position in lithium-ion ceramic battery products, and provide additional intellectual property in the US, China, Japan, South Korea and Germany.

Celgard successfully sues firm over lithium-ion separator trade secrets

US battery separator firm Celgard, a subsidiary of Polypore International, has successfully sued Canadian company Targray International on infringement of two patents on its lithium-ion separator portfolio.

The case— heard in California, US— involved Celgard’s ceramic coated battery separator patent (US Patent 6,432,586, now U.S. Patent RE47,520) and Celgard’s polypropylene separator patent (U.S. Patent 6,692,867).

Claims to double NMC performance

US technology company Wildcat Discovery Technologies has been granted three patents for nickel manganese cobalt cathode components.

The patents were awarded from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its groundbreaking copper fluoride cathode Wildcat calls "CM4".
