Battery developer Amprius Technologies has begun shipping its silicon anode lithium-ion batteries for commercial use in High-Altitude Pseudo Satellites.
The shipment is the culmination of a partnership with the unnamed aerospace firm to develop the 450Wh/kg, 1150Wh/L lithium-ion cells use the company’s Si-Nanowire platform.
Amprius has also begun plans for its first high volume manufacturing facility located in the US, although a production site location has not yet been announced.
Last month, Amprius reported that its silicon anode lithium-ion pouch cells could charge to 80% from zero state of charge in under six minutes.
The cells, with a nominal capacity of 2750mAh, were verified by battery regulatory compliance, safety, and performance testing company Mobile Power Solutions
The purpose of the test was to evaluate cell performance at high charging rates (10C).
