US-based Advanced Battery Concepts (ABC) has extended its GreenSeal battery range with a 3.8kg lead-acid battery for automotive applications.
The 12V battery has 1,700W/kg of specific power whilst maintaining over 30Wh/kg of specific energy and generates 570 HCA and 400 CCA.
The lightweight battery product includes 12V, 24V, 36V and 48V variants.
“This battery has great potential for applications that require higher power over short to medium durations, with the significant cost and recycling advantage of traditional lead acid batteries, but also the higher cycle life and further cost advantage of GreenSeal technology,” said Edward Shaffer, CEO and founder of ABC.
The battery is set to undergo full production qualification at ABC’s Michigan development facility in 2015. The Michigan-based company is currently testing the product for other applications, including peak power shaving, grid energy frequency modulation, industrial backup power and solar as well as wind backup power.
ABC has commenced commercial production of its patented valve regulated lead-acid battery in September this year. According to ABC, the battery uses 45% less lead than standard VRLA batteries and reduces manufacturing costs as well as cost of ownership. It is designed to charge in around half the time than other VRLA batteries.
