Counterfeit lithium battery manufacturers are the target of a joint campaign by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the Portable Rechargeable Battery Association (PRBA).
The groups are set to lobby governments to clamp down on fake batteries that pose a threat to aviation safety when the products are shipped.
Governments must regulate fake battery manufactures by issuing licences and prosecuting those operating illegally, Glyn Hughes, IATA’s head of cargo, told JOC.com.
The latest development in the fight against lithium-ion battery shipments comes after several Airlines across the world banned the shipment of the batteries from their planes. More on this story here
The groups will also aim to get governments to ensure the batteries are correctly declared to stop people from sidestepping regulations that limit the size of lithium batteries or stipulate certain packaging.
