EV maker Ampere is building a battery cell laboratory to prototype battery cells for use by brands throughout its parent, company, the French Renault Group.
Construction began in March at Renault’s technical centre in Lardy, Essonne, France. It will be fully operational in the second half of 2025.
Ampere said in a statement the facility will help evaluate the processes of cell suppliers, with identification of technological innovation and cost control. The laboratory will then perform electro-physico-chemical characterisation.
That will evaluate the performance and behaviour of the cells, including durability, fast charge, disassembly and internal cell analysis.
The laboratory will cover 3,000 square metres over two floors, including a 600 sq. m. anhydrous laboratory room.
