US-based power management solutions provider Eaton has announced the launch of its “breakthrough” uninterruptible power supply (UPS) system in Asia that features lithium-ion batteries.
The new Eaton 1500VA UPS, scheduled to be launched, in the third quarter of 2017, is expected to have twice the battery life compared to that of a standard UPS system, the company said.
Eaton told BBB “this product will go into mass production in September with planned launches across the APAC region”. Eaton said the launch will start in the fourth quarter of this year, with a “pipeline” of products starting in Singapore before moving into Australia and New Zealand and then China.
Eaton said the new units have “longer replacement cycles and lower weight in comparison to the traditional lead-acid batteries”. The lithium-ion solutions have an eight-year lifetime warranty and the company said “the new Eaton 1U model can recharge from 0-90% of capacity in about 4 hours”.
Andy Low, general manager of the distributed power quality division of APAC Eaton said: “We developed a completely differentiated solution to meet our customers’ needs, including a low-cost solution for battery replacements for those who operate in remote offices.”
“The Eaton 1500VA UPS was developed in response to the industry’s acute need for such a solution,” Low said. “Through our conversations with industry partners and data centre customers, we have heard their concerns and have responded.”
