Fluence Energy is to supply a 150MW/300MWh energy storage system (ESS) to SSE Renewables at the site of a former coal-fired power station it owned.
The site is based at Fiddler’s Ferry, Warrington, in the UK. Fluence said it will base the ESS on its modular storage lithium-ion Gridstack platform. The coal-fired power station was decommissioned in 2020.
Fluence said the system will be capable of running for up to two hours at a time. It said it is investing around £7 billion ($8.9 billion) up to 2027 in decarbonisation work. It includes plans for the world’s largest offshore wind farm and 9GW of renewable energy capacity.
Construction is due to start in the new few weeks. Principal contractor is UK company OCU Energy.
Fluence is listed in New York on Nasdaq and works in 47 countries.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed.
