Gcorelab, a Singapore based clean-tech company, has received US$482,000 in funding from government sponsored Red Dot Ventures as part of a programme to promote new technology in Singapore. Gcorelab has developed a system that it claims cools batteries 50 – 80% more than liquid cooling methods.
The funding suggests that the company has proven its methods to overcome the stumbling block for lithium batteries of overheating. Instead of using moving air or water as most coolants do, the Gcorelab system uses smart sensors with a patented fin design that attract the heat and efficiently move it away.
Gcorelab says the components of its system allow for better control of heat movement in both liquid and non-liquid systems and can also be reversed to heat the battery up if the device is being used in cold temperatures.
