US lead-acid battery technology firm Gridtential has appointed John Barton as the company’s new CEO and welcomed Bob Gruenstern to its technical advisory board.
Gridtential said the move would help accelerate its plans for the commercialisation of its patented Silicon Joule battery technology.
Barton, formerly president of global asset management for SunEdison, a renewable energy developer in the US, succeeds Christiaan Beekhuis— who Gridtential said will pursue “other opportunities in the renewable energy and software space”.
Gruenstern was formerly “a lifelong engineer” at lead battery giant Johnson Controls, where he served as global VP for product and advanced engineering. He is now with US-based batteries distributor Interstate Batteries.
Last month, Gridtential completed an $11 million Series B equity raise to boost “commercial opportunities” for its Silicon Joule battery technology in hybrid vehicle, grid storage and other global markets.
Gridtential chairman Ray Kubis thanked Beekhuis for his leadership over the past five years.
Kubis added: “I’d like to thank Interstate Batteries for supporting Bob’s appointment so he can aid the further development of one of the most promising technology platforms in our industry.”
