Hollingsworth & Vose (H&V), a battery separator manufacturer, has acquired Indian filtration media and battery separator maker Raman FibreScience (Raman) with immediate effect.
Raman manufactures a range of battery separators for flooded lead-acid batteries. According to the Mysore-headquartered company, the battery separators are suitable for use in automotive, standby power, industrial tubular and traction batteries. Raman has an international customer base.
“Raman FibreScience has a strong team with considerable experience in wet-laid fibre based technology,” said Val Hollingsworth, CEO of the US-based company. “For H&V, India represents an important market and the RFS location and team provide H&V with an operational base with which to serve our customers and grow our India presence.”
H&V is part of a New York state $2.2m funding programme in which the government supports nine companies for the development of novel battery chemistries, capacitors and components. H&V will produce high-surface-area separators for lead-acid batteries used in micro-hybrid vehicles. The company aims to improve the use of advanced lead-acid batteries. H&V also produces separators for lithium primary batteries, designed to sustain the battery temperatures in excess of 400°C.
