The International Lead Association has taken responsibility for the management of the Advanced Lead Acid Battery Consortium as part of a reorganisation of associations supporting the global lead industry.
The new partnership forms part of ILA’s wider strategic goals to unite the entire lead industry under a single, clear and focused global programme of action on lead and lead batteries.
ILA has also formed a strategic alliance with EUROBAT, Battery Council International and the Association of Battery Recyclers (ABR).
The alliance aims to advance the cause of lead batteries and make it the technology of choice as competing chemistries and associated technologies challenge for market space.
“We know that lead is essential, sustainable and innovative and closer integration will help us take advantage of the significant future opportunities for lead batteries in a range of automotive and stationary applications,” said ILA Managing Director Dr Andy Bush.
“There remain significant opportunities to improve the performance of lead batteries, ensuring they remain the product of choice in certain automotive and energy storage applications.”
ALABC is an international consortium carrying out pre-competitive research to improve lead battery technology.
ALABC ‘s next three-year programme (2016-2018) will renew its focus on fundamental battery research that would not otherwise be funded or shared between companies in the same way.
