Polish battery manufacturer Impact Clean Power Technology has begun construction of a gigafactory that will produce around 5GWh of lithium-ion batteries for the public transport, railroad sector and commercial and domestic stationary energy storage markets.
The GigafactoryX project will manufacture electric vehicles and power systems based on lithium-ion LTO, LFP and NMC technologies.
Start of production is planned for 2024 in Poland.
The new production lines will be highly automated to ensure production efficiency and the quality of produced batteries but also the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions.
The plant will be powered by photovoltaic installation stabilised by an energy storage system built from second-life batteries previously used in public transportation.
Ultimately, the company also plans to source half of the raw materials used in battery production from recycling.
The company’s customers are Polish and foreign manufacturers of vehicles based on electric drives, including buses, streetcars, trolleybuses and yachts, as well as companies from the industrial, power (traditional and RES), railroad and telecommunication sectors.
