Global lead organisation The International Lead Association has welcomed its first Chinese member company in its 75-year history.

Lead battery recycler Jiangsu New Chunxing Resource Recycling joined the association as the first Chinese representative within the organisation, which was founded in 1946.

New Chunxing operates several sites, including at the renewable economy industrial park in the Jiangsu region, which is dedicated to developing a circular economy centred on lead batteries.

New Chunxing’s chairman, Yang Chunming said: “Joining ILA and signing up the association’s commitments, including for workers’ blood lead targets, is therefore a logical consequence in the evolution of our company.

"I look forward to working together with ILA to positively impact the sustainability credentials of the lead industry in China.”

The company was an early adopter of international environmental standards ISO 14001 and 45001, and first received certification in 2013.

Chunming said that after many rounds of experiments the company’s smelting process technology had led to a 50% reduction of discard slag generated.
