Japanese firm Ube Industries is expanding its production capacity for lithium-ion battery separators to 300 million square meters by around 2020.
Expansion plans come as the company builds new production facilities for separators at its Sakai Factory, Osaka Prefecture, Japan.
Ube Industries expansion plans comes as it looks to meet growing demand for lithium-ion batteries for the automotive market.
Once the initial expansion project is completed in April 2018 the company’s Ube Chemical Factory and Sakai Factory will have a combined production capacity of 250 million square meters annually.
Ube Industries began manufacturing separators at the Ube Chemical Factory in Ube City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, in 1994. The Company began production of separators at Sakai Factory in 2013.
In 2011, Ube Industries and Hitachi Maxell, Ltd. established Ube Maxell Co., Ltd., as a joint venture to manufacture high-performance coated separator films.
