BMW says it will use a lead-acid storage system right across its range in a mild hybrid configuration designed to improve fuel economy – bringing lead-acid back from the shadows in hybrid design. The Editor reports from the Advanced Automotive Battery Conference in Long Beach, California.
Lead-acid chemistry, as far as the hybrid electric vehicle market is concerned, has all the attributes of the terminators in the famous movies. Every year it looks like the chemistries have killed its prospects, but then it seems to come right back to life again.
