German firm Quinos is to provide its lithium-ion energy storage systems for two hybrid off-grid applications in the coming months.
The company’s ESS will allow micro-grid projects in Chile and Indonesia to curb use of diesel generators while storing renewable energy from solar photovoltaic (PV).
The first project will see the Berlin-based smart energy firms ESS used in one of the largest hybrid micro-grids in the Raja Ampat area of Indonesia.
The ESS will help the Misool Eco Resort reduce annual diesel use by 55% by hybridising the existing diesel micro-grid with a 125kW PV and 168kWh of batteries once commissioned in Q2 2017.
Samsung SDI is supplying the battery’s cells.
Implementation of the project and its design is being conducted by Singapore-based renewable energy micro-grid service provider, Canopy Power Pte.
Canopy Power will be responsible for constructing and commissioning the system, and provide a remote monitoring support to Misool Eco Resort.
The battery solution including the Site Controller and Microgrid Energy Management System with embedded remote monitoring system for this off grid energy system will come from QINOUS.
Quinos’ second project will be to supply a 330kWh lithium-ion battery and management system for a hybrid diesel, PV and battery application in Chile’s spa resort Tierra Atacama Hotel & Spa.
It is believed the battery will help the resort save up to 65% of its diesel use once installed in June 2017.
