Utility-scale energy storage developer esVolta has been selected to build a proposed 75-megawatt lithium-ion battery storage facility in California.
The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) wants esVolta to also operate the 300 megawatt-hour Hummingbird energy storage project, under proposals submitted to the California Public Utilities Commission.
PG&E said the project is slated to be in service by December 2020. The Hummingbird project “will provide an array of energy and ancillary services to California’s electric grid, enhancing reliability and facilitating greater ability to integrate renewable energy resources such as wind and solar energy,” PG&E said.
BEST Battery Briefing reported earlier this month on PG&E plans to install four lithium-ion battery storage facilities to replace reliance on gas peaker plants for grid reliability in California’s South Bay area.
