Emerging electric vehicle maker Mullen Technologies has revealed plans to produce more than 100,000 vehicles using lithium-sulfur pouch format batteries developed by NexTech.
The strategic partnership between the two firms could see Mullen deliver electric vehicle packs under $90/kWh using NexTech Batteries’ technology, which uses sulphur sourced from recycling oil refinement by-products.
The announcement came in the same week it signed a definitive agreement to purchase a turn-key manufacturing facility in Mississippi, US.
Under Mullen ownership, the five-year-old facility will be called the Mullen’s Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Center (AMEC) and Proving Grounds.
The facility will enable the California, US-based company to “innovate its manufacturing processes and optimise product design”.

Mullen aims to launch its first-generation vehicle with NexTech’s current cells in late 2023, and will work in parallel to phase-in their next generation solid-state battery technology into its pack designs.
