As EU bureaucrat Joanna Szychowska rolled out lines at last week’s Eurobat event in Brussels about the EU’s so called action plan for batteries— which is focused solely on lithium-ion— a lone voice from the International Lead Association called out for plurality in research and for inclusion for research funding for lead batteries.
Dr Alistair Davidson (pictured) extolled the virtues of lead which the Eurobat audience had heard many times before— safe, recyclable, low-cost and now innovative— explaining that the Advanced Lead Acid Battery consortium did all its R&D with just $5 million in funding as opposed to the billions the EU is about to put in the hands of European researchers.
The action plan calls for basic research investment in pilot line products and long term research and skills matching.
