The Quezon City government in the Philippines ordered the closure of a warehouse for storing uncertified lead-acid batteries. The city authorities, based near the capital Manila, ordered the raid and seizure in Barangay Manresa, Quezon City, on September 10.
Agents from the Fair Trade Enforcement Bureau, the city’s Business Permit and Licensing Department, along with the Department of Trade and Industry, Task Force Kasalag and National Bureau of Investigation led the operation.
They can be seen fixing a sign declaring the closure of CSS Autoparts Inc. The company could not immediately be reached for comment.
Agents seized some 20,000 uncertified batteries – alleged to be in violation of import regulations and consumer law of the Philippines, the city government said. It added it is willing to work together to ensure consumer safety and fair business in the city.
An industry insider who did not wish to be named told BEST millions of batteries are shipped illegally through south-east Asia every year.
