Leclanché batteries to power EV fast-charging partnership

Switzerland-based energy storage firm Leclanché is teaming up with a Dutch company on a pilot batteries project aimed at creating a network of energy-efficient electric vehicle (EV) fast charging stations across Europe.

Leclanché said it will initially develop a battery storage system “using large-format lithium-ion batteries” at two unnamed locations for Fastned— which already operates 63 fast charging EV stations it has built in the Netherlands.

NEC ES to supply “largest” Swiss BESS

US energy storage firm NEC Energy Solution (NEC ES) is to supply a Swiss utility with grid storage that will potentially be “the largest battery energy storage system in Switzerland”.

The 18MW/ 7.5MWh GSS grid storage solution including lithium-ion batteries will be delivered to electricity distributor Elektrizitaetswerke des Kantons Zuerich (EKZ) in early 2018.

Zhejiang Unifull Industrial Fibre Co Ltd, a Chinese lithium batteries manufacturer, said its subsidiary has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with one nationally owned aerospace company to make lithium batteries.

Unifull’s unit, Jiangsu ZhiHang New Energy (ZHNE), a Chinese high-tech company designs and produces lithium battery products, will work with a research institution of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) to develop automotive battery systems for the market.

Zhejiang Unifull Industrial Fibre Co Ltd, a Chinese lithium batteries manufacturer, said its subsidiary has signed a strategic cooperation framework agreement with one nationally owned aerospace company to make lithium batteries.

Unifull’s unit, Jiangsu ZhiHang New Energy (ZHNE), a Chinese high-tech company designs and produces lithium battery products, will work with a research institution of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) to develop automotive battery systems for the market.

In the joint development, CASC will be responsible for the production of battery packs and battery management systems, whilst ZHNE manufactures lithium-ion batteries.

This two-year agreement aims to establish the purchase-supply relationship between the companies, which eye on the applications in terms of industry, agriculture, traffic, transportation, and national defence.

Unifull said combining CASC’s solid scientific research strength and technological reserve with ZHNE’s financial asset and market influence is building a “benign” model of the military-civilian businesses integration.

However, there are concerns warning the industry the overcapacity of automotive battery may led to a sharp drop in price, while the new energy vehicles policy of the Chinese government falls short.

$1500 for pioneering Tesla’s battery storage at home

US tech giant Tesla and Vermont-based electric services provider Green Mountain Power (GMP) have launched a home energy solution which initially unites Powerwall and Powerpack lithium-ion batteries into a single resource of shared energy.

GMP plans to install Powerpacks on utility land and deploy up to 2,000 Powerwall batteries to households within the service area to enable more renewable energy and increase grid efficiency.

Battery materials supplier Targray has introduced an electrodeposited nickel foil for lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors.

The electro conductive nickel foil has a thickness range of 4μm to 50μm and a width capability of up to 100mm. According to the US company, the component has better tensile strength, exceptional anti-corrosive properties and improved acid and heat resistance, as well as etching abilities compared to traditional copper or rolled nickel foil.
